Veneers

Veneers are ultra-thin, porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are used to correct:

- the shape of teeth , where teeth are worn down, chipped, broken, misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped. Veneers can also close teeth the space between teeth with gaps between them; and

- the colour of the teeth. Where the teeth are discolored – either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth.

Pros and Cons Veneers

Veneers allow the teeth's appearance to be changed with minimal tooth preparation. Many veneer procedures can be done with the use of little or no local anesthetic. Traditionally, a reduction of approximately 0.5 mm is required for a porcelain veneer. Although this will depend on the brand of veneer.

Veneers can be used to make teeth appear straighter and possess a more aesthetically pleasing alignment. This may be a quick way to improve the appearance of malposed teeth without the need to use orthodontics. Multiple veneers can close spaces, lengthen teeth that have been shortened by wear, provide a uniform color, shape, and symmetry, and make the teeth appear straight. Porcelain veneers provide teeth with an excellent aesthetic quality.
